During the free tour 'Edinburgh Mysteries, Ghosts and Witch Burning', we explore the alleyways where the inhabitants of Edinburgh lived in the 17th century and learn about the deaths they experienced during the Black Death and the doctors who tried to cure the disease using bird masks. We unravel the mysteries of the South Bridge, where whisky was illegally distilled and, more importantly, where bodies were hidden. Speaking of bodies, we focus on the black market for corpses and serial killers such as William Burke and William Hare. We visit Old Calton Cemetery and Canongate. We climb Calton Hill, where I will talk about something I am passionate about: the burning of witches and sorcerers. We will see if any tour participants ended up on the pyre. On Calton Hill, we also find the Observatory, Nelson's Monument, and the National Monument of Scotland – symbols of the city, but locally known as Edinburgh's "three shames". And we walk through a passageway, Jacob's Ladder, which was used as a secret passage during the black market for corpses.
