Although today it stands as a memorial, Terezin was originally founded in the late 18th century as a Habsburg military fortress. Over time, this complex evolved from a modern defensive bastion into a Jewish ghetto and Nazi concentration camp, where thousands of people perished under inhumane conditions. During this guided tour in English, you will visit the Small Fortress, used as a Gestapo prison, and the Ghetto Museum in the Main Fortress, which once served as a concentration center and Nazi propaganda tool. ♥ Walk through the sites where more than 34,000 people died from hunger and disease. ♥ Discover the 15 km of underground tunnels once used as escape routes. ♥ Learn how a town of 5,000 inhabitants became home to over 60,000 Jews. ♥ Pay tribute at the Terezin National Cemetery, final resting place of more than 2,000 victims.
