Sheva's original free walking tour is our signature Mostar experience, specially designed for travelers who want to see the city's famous landmarks while simultaneously gaining a deeper insight into the history and the people behind them. We start in the heart of Mostar's UNESCO-protected Old Town and explore the cobblestone streets, traditional architecture, historic crafts, and the iconic Old Bridge, while discovering the cultures and communities that have shaped the city throughout the centuries. But the story of Mostar does not end at the Old Bridge. During the tour, we go beyond the postcard-perfect views and explore the events that have shaped modern Mostar. From the final decades of Ottoman rule and the transformation of the city under Austria-Hungary, we move on to the founding and breakup of Yugoslavia, the war in the 1990s, the reconstruction, and the reality of life in Mostar today. Along the way, our local guides combine historical context with stories, observations, and perspectives rooted in the city itself. We approach Mostar’s more complex history with care and strive to provide context rather than simple tales, while leaving plenty of room for questions and conversation. After about 2.5 hours, you will have experienced both the Mostar that visitors come to see and the Mostar that is harder to discover on your own—the history, culture, contradictions, resilience, and daily life.
